FILLING THE NICHE (in memory of a dearly loved friend and actress) by Judith Shallow

A stunning new statue will be unveiled at St Peter’s Church, Cockfield on 27th September at 2.30 pm. It will fill a niche (picture attached) that has
lain empty since Henry VIII’s reformation.

The beautiful sculpture of St Peter, hand crafted by the talented stone carver Simon Keeley, is a memorial to Luanne Stockwell who died in 2009 aged 95. This unique tribute represents her deep faith, love for the community she lived in, her life in the arts, and reflects the extraordinary impact this effervescent actress and dancer had on the community in which she lived for so many years and for which she cared so deeply.

Luanne had led a remarkable life and having had no living relatives for many years, her friends and neighbours in Cockfield became her extended family. The statue of St Peter has been commissioned by a group of those friends, of all ages, and funded by her individual bequests to them.
